Description: The bill creates a screening system in the Department of Taxation to evaluate the eligibility of owners of real property and manufactured/mobile homes who receive homestead exemptions and the 2.5% owner occupancy credit.

If the Department finds an exemption or credit was improperly given, it must notify the applicable county auditor. Similarly, each county auditor will have access to the system and if they discover an error, they must notify the Department.

The bill appropriates $7.5 million in each year of the biennium to support the screening and verification system.
