Lead Sponsors: Representative Thomas Hall and Representative Dani Isaacshon
Status: First hearing in House Ways and Means (May 21, 2025)
Description: The bill allows a property tax freeze for homeowners who are 65 years old or older, have resided in the same homestead for at least two years, have a total income less than $50,000, and the true value of the homestead is less than $500,000.
The property tax freeze reduces an individual’s property tax bill by the difference between the calculated tax due and the taxes they paid the year before they first received the freeze. Revenue lost from the freeze is not reimbursed to local governments.
CCAO Position: CCAO is supportive of the concept of a tax freeze but is generally opposed to property tax credits that are not reimbursed to local governments.
