Description: The bill increases the offense of assault on a judge, magistrate, prosecutor, court official, or employee engaged in the performance of the victim’s duties from a first-degree misdemeanor to a fifth-degree felony for the first offense; subsequent offenses are increased from a fifth-degree felony to a fourth-degree felony.

The bill also adds probation officers (defined as a probation officer appointed by a municipal, county, or common pleas court) to the definition of "peace officer," thereby adding probation officers to the scope of more than 90 additional Revised Code sections.
