The County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO) sincerely thanks House Speaker Bob Cupp and the Ohio House of Representatives for their strong support of county government in the House budget substitute bill by fully funding indigent defense reimbursement.
“CCAO is very pleased with the House’s decision to provide what is estimated to be full reimbursement for indigent defense funding in the state operating budget,” CCAO President Tim Bubb said. “The costs of funding this mandated service place considerable strain on a county’s general fund budget, and full reimbursement allows us to use those dollars to deliver other vital services to the people we serve. We are very grateful to Speaker Cupp and the members of the House for their support on this issue as we work in partnership to build stronger counties for a stronger Ohio.”
CCAO’s primary legislative priority is to have the state fully reimburse counties for their costs incurred in fulfilling the state’s constitutional obligation to provide counsel to indigent defendants.
