CCAO welcomes Gov. Mike DeWine’s announcement today that six county jails will receive millions in funding to rebuild or expand their facilities.

“CCAO is very grateful to Governor DeWine and the General Assembly for their support of safe and modern county jail facilities,” said CCAO President Tim Bubb. “As counties face substantial capital expenses to replace outdated and overcrowded jails, these funds offer much-needed support to counties to construct jail facilities that both protect the public and better serve those incarcerated. We greatly appreciate the state’s partnership on this important issue.”

Those counties receiving grants for new jail construction include:

  • Coshocton County – $10.1 million
  • Gallia County – $5.5 million
  • Harrison County – $9.1 million
  • Lawrence County – $16.8 million

Two jails are receiving funding to expand their facilities:

  • Scioto County Jail – $1.5 million
  • Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail – $1.9 million

The remaining $5 million will be directed to address safety needs at other jails across the state.

CCAO also thanks the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association for their partnership in advocating for these funds.
